The Two Cent Piece was only minted from 1864-1873. It is the second shortest denomination series in US history. If you've ever heard anyone say: “I want to throw my two cents in.” That is because of the two cent piece. This was also the first time that the motto “In God We Trust” was ever put on a coin. On the obverse of the Two Cent Piece it says “In God We Trust” at the top, accompanied by a shield in the middle and leaves on both sides with the date below. On the reverse of the coin it says “two cents” in the middle, which is surrounded by a wreath, and around the wreath are the words “United States of America”. These coins are made out of copper.
