The Capped Bust Half Dime

The Capped Bust Half Dime was minted between 1829-1837. It was only minted in Philadelphia. The Half Dime was produced prior to the nickel. On the obverse of the coin, it depicts Lady Liberty facing left wearing a cap, and her portrait comes up to her bust. Around Lady Liberty there are 13 stars which represent the original 13 colonies, with the date below. On the reverse of the coin it depicts an American Eagle holding an olive branch in one talon with arrows in the other. Above his head the words “E pluribus unum” can be seen around the top, with “United States of America” above. Below the branch it shows the number five and the letter C. This coin was struck in 90% silver. .
