The Liberty Seated Half Dime

The Liberty Seated Dime was minted from 1837-1891. It was minted in five different US mints: Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Carson City. This coin was struck in 90% silver. The obverse of the coin depicts Lady liberty sitting on a rock holding a shield in one hand with "Liberty" inscribed on it, and a flag in her other hand. 13 stars representing the original 13 colonies are on the obverse with the date below and later varieties the stars are removed and the legend “United States of America” has replaced it. On the reverse of the coin it shows a wreath, and in the middle of the wreath it says “One Dime”. “United States of America” was also present on the reverse of the coin until the later varieties where it was moved to the obverse.
